Kenya, Kirinyaga is one of our favourite coffees.

It is a sophisticated, juicy coffee with notes of Caramel, Cola and Raspberry candy. What else can you ask for in a coffee?

It presents a medium body, great acidity and long sweet finish. Great to drink either as black coffee or a lighter milk based coffee.

Altitude: 1,650 - 1,800 mass.

Harvest Period: October - January

Process: Fully washed and sun-dried on raised beds

  • The Kabare Farmer's Cooperative Society (FCS) represents approximately 1000 farmers in the Kirinyaga District, on the southern slope of Mt. Kenya's western side. In the language of the Kikuyu ethnic group, who live on the southern and western sides of the mountain, Kirinyaga means "God's resting place." Many of the groups that live on the mountain consider it to be sacred and build their homes with the door facing toward its snowy peak.

Coffee is grown in the area's mineral-rich volcanic soil, and red cherry is delivered to the wet mill for processing. It's washed in fresh river water and dried in the sun on raised beds.

    Kabare Farmer Cooperative Society

The Kabare Farmer Cooperative Society is located in Kirinyaga and is composed of 11 factories. These factories lie at different altitudes - some of them just bordering the Mount Kenya forest - and are therefore able to accommodate numerous farmers delivering cherry. Most of the cherry received by Kabare comes from SL28 and SL34 varieties. The Konyu factory is named after the stream that runs by the factory and provides the water for coffee processing.
